> what's it actually like?
pretty basic card battler, the enemies show you what they'll do next turn and you use a hand of cards from a deck you've built up the current run to try and kill them and survive in the meantime. just like uma musume a lot of the fun is "building a run" and being able to take a pretty generic start and turn it into a fine-tuned machine that does what you want it to (or is Goldshi/snecko eye).
>what progression persists/grows between runs?
the first dozen hours you get minor progress with character unlocks (only 4 total characters) and some more cards/items that mix into runs randomly. after that it's the same game forever, but the balance is good and fun so it's enjoyable to just do a run when you have the time, no need to settle in for a long game. You also unlock higher difficulties by beating the previous one, up to +20 difficulty.
I'm nowhere near a completionist since I just don't prefer some characters, but I have over 300 hours because truly good roguelikes are set up so when you finish a run you feel satisfied and think "maybe just 1 more run" whether you win or lose.
