What's so bad about just wanting to know whether someone is okay with you or not? Anything that involves interacting with another being is going to involve some amount of externalization. If we could do everything internally, we'd all be living in our own self-created universes, completely isolated from each other, because we wouldn't need anything from outside ourselves. And that's just not how things work.
