To put into perspective how good of a horse Secretariat, Big Red, is, he still holds the record for ever race in the American Triple Crown, he did that in 1973. Every single Derby horse basically today traces their linage from Scretariat. When he won the Belmont, which is considered the hardest due to being the longest race in the Triple Crown, he won the race by 31 lengths. When they did an autopsy on his body, his heart was 21 pounds, the average horse heart weighs 8. He truly was a tremendous machine.
