The attitude of the average internet user became very hostile, that's what happened. Everyone assumes bad faith so they can pick fights with each other, blows things out of proportions for a raison d'etre to dunk on you, and are generally just very, well, mean for lack of a better word. You cannot have fun with others when others want to be as vitrolic and pick fights.
