The acceleration of 3D was the beginning of the end. I remember 2D games getting panned by reviewers under the 'pixelated' moniker when you had some good looking 2D games still being made and still standing out vs. the clunky looking 3D that was still awkward-looking around the sixth generation. Making cinematic experiences didn't help either, why the fuck is a game's cutscenes running for the same timeframe as three movies? Why the fuck did video games become infiltrated by movie directors? I get the push for graphics but the movie shit really grinds my gears.
