>That's a myth.
My parents were doing international trade during 1990s. We've met these people, so you won't sell me that bullshit. There were criminals of all sizes to feed on businesses of all sizes.
What matters for this discuassion is that if you wanted to make it big, you couldn't just pay to criminals - you had to be a criminal. Business and political scene of Russia is founded on prison's powerstructure (with prison slang, vor v zakone etc.) because these people were (are) all ciminals. That's because previous (USSR's) political leadership collapsed along with previous Russian state (USSR).
So yes, USSR collapsed and Russia is following it's steps 1:1. However it'll be much worse this time, because USSR was much more powerful and respected and even wealthy. This time even you'll admit it was a collapse.

>group focused on pressuring Russia
>The group's work was unrelated to the Russia sanctions package in the U.S. Senate.
Things might seems different than you think, my Ukrainian friend. Trump is currently cutting off Russian shills like Cucker Carlson and even Tulsi Gabbard. According to Maria Zakharova (Russian spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) after Trump's latest phone call with Putin, US canceled all further talks with Russians (one's that were already planned). There will be no more talks between US and Russia, so there's no reason for pressuring in this sense.
It might mean silence before pressure on Russia is putted elsewhere (e.g. sanctions on Russia or sending more weapons to Ukraine). There were leaks that Trump gave Putin deadline on ceasefire and that deadline passed 2 days ago. Of course he won't suddenly say "Ukraine is good now and I will give them all the weapons they need", but if there's a shift, that's how it would look like.
