>loved BL2 as a kid
>BL3 comes out years later
>hear braindead reddit takes 1000 times over from Furious Andre to /v/ and everywhere in between about how it's the worst fucking game ever, unplayable dogshit that you need to mod so that it doesn't blow out your eardrums
>avoid it
>brother asks to play it a month ago
>actually a really fun game
I'm not going to pretend the overarching plot was good (pacing near the end was really bad, Typhon sucks, BL2 cast wasted besides Zero, your PCs literally don't exist in cutscenes) or that the Tyreens weren't massive downgrades from Jack, but BL3 wasn't nearly as bad as retards online hyped it up to be. You'd think this game was a DmC-level disaster, and then you play it and it's an 8/10 shooter attached to a forgettable and poorly paced story that you can pretty much tune out most of the time.
If I'm going to play devil's advocate, I'll also say that I thought nearly all of BL3's subplots/"worlds" were solid from a narrative standpoint. Rhys/Maliwan war, Balex and Genevieve, Jakobs Manor and so on (maybe not Vaughn, sorry bro) were all generally pleasant affairs with engaging plotlines and a handful of decent-to-funny jokes. It's just that the story has a really shitty through-line tying them all together, which (incidentally) is why all four of the DLCs are great - or, at least, significantly more compelling than the main plot.
I don't doubt that the game was probably much worse on launch, but I feel that every now and again the internet just likes to designate a noticeably flawed product as a scapegoat to get its aggression out before it goes back to consuming two thousand other equally flawed, if not worse things.
