The entire purpose of the US government structure is to have the vast majority of power residing locally, not in some centralized, bureaucratic capital thousands of miles away. All of the Founders were British subjects and hated how London ruled the entire Kingdom, with power massively concentrated at the top, with the elite not living the same reality everyone else.
Centralizing government power never ever leads to efficiency, affordability, or quality. In fact, history has proven that the exact opposite happens due to corruption.
