Yeah I wouldn't go for a gold painted watch, I personally couldn't get over the fact that it's pretending to be a precious metal when it's not. There are some gold plated watches that are kind of iconic like the cartier tank, I'd rather go for something like that.
The cream dial bambino might just be the nicest looking watch under 1k, my only concern is that the dial may be a bit too custard yellow in real life. Not my picture but already quite different from official shots.
