Whey protein powder is made from sweet whey that gets refined through a large industrial contraption that returns goopy liquid of mostly calories into protein dense powder. It's definitely a big process and it took time for it to be created.

Sour whey, from yogurt, is still largely an industrial byproduct that has to be handled as such because it can cause acidification of lakes if you just dump it. I hear they're working on some process to try to get the protein out. You can still find "top 10 uses for whey" on cooking sites, usually mixing it into fruit smoothies. No one actually uses it, they just pour it down the drain (like I do).

Anyways, "waste" is basically a non-term. Everything is waste, nothing is waste. It's totally subjective and relative. The guy is clearly a fucking schizo and is mixing legitimate food advice with just wacky shit like eating raw meat.
