As long as you're not putting sharp bends in the fiber, you're fine. A decade ago I remember seeing some company demo its optical fiber by literally folding it in half. Over the years I'm sure they've been able to bring that property to even thinner fibers and for cheap.

If you spot one of the drones coming at you, your best defense is to head into a wooded area, mostly to increase its chance of getting tangled up, not because wrapping around a tree will snap the fiber (which is probably being fed from a can that's a smaller diameter.)

I doubt they're re-using these drones or the fibers. The drones are the bombs, and the fibers can be tens of kilometers in length. Ever tried to wind a long wire back on to its spool? It's not going to fit unless you're meticulous about it winding in nice even rows, and clearing any debris that stuck to it
