I think internet culture has changed quite a bit in regards to liking Sonic and how it was seen to like it yeah. I think liking Sonic now is less of a mockery now thanks to the films and some of the subpar games bringing back some good will, so as a result people arent afraid to make OCs. Which I think is a nice little full circle moment. While I prefer just sticking to games and such, I do admire people inserting themselves into the story out of sheer love. For better or worse.
