More generally, I think urobuchi knew that the direction the series took as a result of an attempt to condense previous plans left it to be unsatisfying regardless so he made it slightly humorous at times to offset the fact he couldn't make it as climactic as he'd like. For instance I thought kichou just lounging on maous throne and shou just walking away from both of them fighting was also funny, then there was the SPK-kichou fujo bait at the end, when the gorilla mech came in to the fight vs the demons the way it crawled off screen made me laugh, though this one may not be intentional, and anki denka generally lightens things.
