DB writing does what it's supposed to do, which is being interesting and having things actually happening.
Take any random chapter of the manga: a lot of stuff happens that would take any other manga two or three chapters on average to do.
This is because Toriyama made up most stuff on the spot, but there's never a dead page in DB, some crazy thing is always going on.
The anime is slightly worse in this regard, some episodes are emptier of actual stuff happening due to anime being harder to produce than manga and sometimes needing to spread the narrative a little thin, but otherwise there's very little dead air in DB.
