NG+0, the only resource that I spent was PP and I don't think the game is as hard as I was lead to believe.
The biggest stumbling block with PoJ is getting used to the AI quirks because they can and will hone onto the nearest unit in range with the lowest HP value unless they see a higher value target (namely one that they have elemental advantage on). For some bizarre reason, the developers decided to make a lot of moves P when they wouldn't be in any other game (mooks running around 1-6P attacks is a very rude awakening early on). So its better that you focus on clearing out as many enemies as possible on your turn because not many characters have a real enemy phase. Especially on maps where you're at a height disadvantage.
Once you get over the hangups with using SP and your units get some levels under their belts, then the game becomes considerably easier. Yanlong in particular is one of the strongest units in the game even with 0 upgrades as he doesn't have many issues severely damaging if not outright one shotting enemies. Other notable characters are Lemia, Gaen, Tytti and the Sandleave twins. Masaki is very underwhelming until the like the last third but you still use him anyway because of Possession.
In terms of skills, Illusion, Lightning Speed, Prana Break/Bypass, Expert, Strong Arm, Fighting Spirit and the final skill everyone unlocks are generally very good. Even Support Defense isn't bad despite it being limited to 1-3 uses per map instead of phase for some bizarre reason.
The worst maps so far are probably Stages 13, 15 and 16.
