I dont know why people say shit like deltarune >= undertale when the game, admittedly has better art direction, but is different with how it handled the story:
Undertale: You don't live in the world = better feeling of being foreign. You don't have any real relationships with the characters = Better to judge characters without bias. + Allows more focused build up of characters being introduced. etc. Detarune also tends to have more gags and wastes of time with the quantity > quality design aspect of introducing characters, when gags were used in undertale, they were still a waste of time but hinted at character traits. (this may also be more apparent because of the games length)
The only things that are the same is the music, same characters for some reason, battle system which sucks ass in both games, and the themes which were done better in undertale.
Difference between fictional world and real world, undertale has multiple layers playing with this, literally falling into world, chara, EXP, determination, deltarune took the more obvious approach.
Actions with consequences, undertale does a slow burn of this with both routes however it does not handhold or make these actions obvious, deltarune makes it obvious, immediate, and doesn't offer anything much more different.
The reason why people like deltarune is different for why people liked undertale but they confuse it for both.
