Russian Missile Strike Hits Residential Area in Mykolaiv, Injuring Seven
A Russian missile strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv late on Saturday night destroyed and damaged dozens of homes, injuring at least seven people and causing a massive fire, according to Ukrainian officials.
The attack, which occurred around 10:01 PM local time, targeted a residential district. According to Vitaliy Kim, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, the strike completely destroyed three private houses and caused significant damage to 23 other private residences and 12 multi-story apartment buildings. The blast also damaged six cars, a post office, and a building materials store.
Emergency services, including the State Emergency Service (DSNS), police, and medics, rushed to the scene. A major fire broke out, covering an area of 1,500 square meters, which firefighters worked to extinguish. First responders were seen carrying out search and rescue operations amid the rubble.
Of the seven civilians injured, three men—aged 32, 57, and 74—were hospitalized. The 57 and 74-year-old men were reported to be in moderate condition, while the 32-year-old received outpatient care. Four other individuals were treated for their injuries at the scene.
The Ukrainian Air Force had issued a warning prior to the attack, noting that a Tu-22M3 strategic bomber, which carries Kh-22 supersonic cruise missiles, was detected over the Black Sea. Shortly after, a powerful explosion was reported in the city, which also led to power outages in parts of Mykolaiv and the neighboring Kherson region.
