One of the first pioneers of transgender rights was a German homosexual Jew named Magnus Hirschfeld. He conducted groundbreaking research into the lives of trans and gay people and worked out theories on medical treatments. His work was later destroyed by the Nazis and research on transgender people was banned and set back by decades.
