Both western and eastern countries supported the creation of Israel because both sides wanted to sway them to their sphere (there was apparently some coercion and threats thrown in).
At the end of the day the marxist movement in Israel died out, they sided with the west, and the soviets didn't have any good reason to play along with them anymore, and so they switched focus to the Arab world.
