Sure, but again, that only really works for me if the entity acting as such is a fringe case, such as Nyarlathotep. Do it too much and you humanize your cosmic horror to the point it isn't a vast, unknowable entity, but just a petty child. It's the same problem I have with the Chaos Gods in 40k.
Shaping your entire mythos about these cosmic forces caring very deeply about humans, humanity and wanting to fuck with them feels like you're diminishing the genre and misunderstanding what makes cosmic horror great. A black hole doesn't suck up a solar system because it hates the things that live there. It doesn't even know they exist, and sucking them up is just a by-product of its existence.
Admittedly I'm somewhat of a hypocrite here. I'm writing a cosmic horror novel with a deity that has an interest in mortal lifeforms, though in its case, it's not acting out of maliciousness but curiosity, and I'm specifically characterizing it as being like how a scientist can get interested in amoeba. We're so far beneath it that it genuinely wants to know how we function with, say, only three dimensions.
