AI is a tool. It CAN make things better, it can push the limits of art, it can help traditional artists, it can implement new things that were previously impossible, etc.
But AAA companies aren't using it to stay on the cutting edge. They're simply using it to save money and cut corners, maximizing profit. They're firing artists and replacing them with the bare minimum implementation of AI that lets them ship a product.
The best example is The Finals. They fired their voice actors and replaced all the lines with AI voices.
Did they do this so they could have a fuckload of voice lines that would have otherwise been economically unfeasible?
Did they do this so they could dynamically generate new voice lines based on what was happening in game using player names?
Did they do this so player characters could give new context-dependent callouts every time they pushed a button?
Nope, they just did it to save a couple thousand dollars and did absolutely nothing new with the technology.
