A $20k bare bones EV pickup designed for short commutes and basic homeowner utility definitely had a market. And the lack of feature bloat was especially interesting. There was a good bit of buzz, though it may have been vaporware all along (the timing seemed suspect, considering they were aiming for a late 2026 launch and had just acquired a lease on the factory in late 2024).

With the ending of the EV tax credit in September, the Slate will have to sell for its full sticker price: $27,500. I like the concept, but at that price point it has to have some features (of my choosing).
