Thats not quite what happens, and thats where the beauty is. Exponential costs means that a diversified build will always have more utility than a specialist. Combat is also not a single stat affair, so someone specializing for strength WILL be tangibly stronger, but will not outfight a more rounded combatant. Similarly you may be the better fencer, but someone stronger and faster and tougher than you at the same level will give you a real run for your money.

That said i want swingy unfair combat so abilities that let you act out of phase make all this fine-tuned white-room balance completely meaningless. its all fun and games until your red rising sword style gets no-sold by shining-dancing blade.
