The thing about Super Metroid that makes it more tolerable than modern slop like Hollow Knight is that getting lost actually allows you to find something of value.

Like yeah, you wandered for an hour, but now you have 30 more missiles and 3 new energy tanks, making your next boss battle way easier than it would be on a typical playthrough. You also heard some banging music that will stick with you for decades and probably ran into the Etecoons and Dachoras.
