I think that I might be able to achieve something similar with just using a series of multicolor shapes. It wouldn't be a gradient, but it'll at least cast light through it. When I'm home I'll take a photo of the glass I got for this project.

However your concern of the super thick edges is something I've also thought about. I think it might have been made via lead came, which is simply like an i channel of thick lead soldered into place. I only have regular copper foil though, so the lines will certainly be smaller, but I'm thinking that if the size of the overall panel is small, it'll took okay proportionally. I hope. I also have black patina, so it'll at least be black rather than silver.

You're totally right about finding something more symbolic too. I've been thinking of a lot of ideas, but I also like hearing from other people, so feel free to suggest more! Right now I was thinking of a chireiden 3 legged yataragasu. Pic related. Though perhaps people would just think I'm Albanian or something.
