when I was a kid and the social services woman asked me what I wanted to be when I was older I said I wanted to be a business man
I had no clear vision of what a business man was but generally I pictured it as sitting at desk, in a cubicle for 8 hours a day, making a lot of money then going home to my 3 story house. my belief was that work was not something to derive joy or passion from, but something to begrudgingly do so that I could extract meaning from the rest of my life. because of that, my ideal job was not one that made me happy, but one that was comfortable. one where I could expect to do the same thing everyday, make money, then enjoy my time off with my beautiful wife and family. as the old chines proverb goes, one cannot have both the fish and the bear’s paw.
