The problem arises when you have to input energy to get energy. So since we use energy for everything in the form of petroleum, it is more like inflation. But also there is less return on investment to discover more oil reserves. It takes years to build a well and return an investment. We can all track the rate at which people are investing and discovering and drilling more oil. At the rate we are currently at, demand will exceed production in a few years.
