>“Never been found? What do you mean? If they’re strong enough to flatten an entire city, they seem like they’d be pretty hard to misplace.”

Bronte shrugs her shoulders. “Exactly. And yet, no one knows where they are. When Ernest attacked Morfis, Xenophanes didn’t use them. One theory is that they were on the airship, and are now buried in the sands. The other theory is that Xenophanes willingly chose not to use these ICBMs because of the destruction they would cause to Morfis. All the work he’d done in creating this place would be for nothing. Having no means of disposing of them, the next best option would be to lock them away where no one could reach. In Tartarus.”

>“So, you think the Sages wish to open Tartarus to get these…ICBMs?”

Bronte nods. “The threat of using those weapons in the past meant potential reprisal from Shambhala. With them gone, the only ICBMs left to call on are here, in Morfis. If the Sages had access to that sort of terrifying power, there’s no telling what they might do with it. They already see themselves as above the rest of us. They take great pride in the ancient, uncorrupted Agarthan blood that flows through them.”

>“I keep hearing these Sages are so great, holding more influence than Yulia herself. If that’s the case, why haven’t they just knocked her off the throne and taken over already?”

“The Sages do not know Yulia cannot use magic.” Bronte smiles mischievously. “There are ancient spells weaved in this palace, as well as machines of war put in place by Xenophanes himself to keep it safe. They can only be activated by the magic of one who shares his blood. Yulia may not be able to do anything with them, but the Sages do not know that. It is out of an abundance of caution that they do not strike out at her. But as their influence and power grows, especially now that the makings of a key are in their possession, I do not wager that they plan to stay still forever.”

>“A question. Whatever is in Tartarus…there’s a possibility it may not be these weapons you speak of, correct?”

Bronte shrugs her shoulders. “There could be flowers and birthday cake inside, Tristain. If a Sorcerer King thousands of years old decided that they needed to be locked away forever, I’d rather a group of power hungry mages that refer to our home as the ‘Dark Continent’ not get their hands on them.”

>A): I was just kind of curious what was inside. I even thought about opening it myself.
>B): Fine, so when I win, we’ll keep Tartarus closed?
>C): What’s your deal with this Yulia? Why are you fighting so hard for her?
>D): I’ve heard enough. Just tell me about the Competition and what I need to do to win.
>E): Write-in
