This might be hard to imagine for newfags but she almost never mentioned the anime or manga or gacha shit back then, she just occasionally showed more knowledge than she should have. She played it pretty close to the chest like she was scared of looking like a fucking nerd in front of the cool kids. She passed the vibe check though, you could tell she was deeper into games and anime than she was willing to share.
She portrayed a much more generic vtuber character playing games and doing what she thought people wanted, apart from some menhera venting. The change in content is a big part of the story of her mental health. By nature she self-censors far more than most and had to be told its OK to be sincere and speak up and be herself (a common theme in her stories is people think she's a boy and she doesn't correct them, she also has a very raunchy childish sense of humor she hides). I think a lot of the older content was just a desperate grab for attention, which morphed into less desperation and more just trying to please the audience she managed to get, but it led to a lot of low effort 90-minute game streams.
She's not a liar, she was just very unloved and unwell, prefers to hide things and stay invisible, and it's kind of amazing she stuck it out instead of melting down. Doremus letting her open up and giving her unconditional love is not really an exaggeration, sharing her real self more on stream means trusting us and trusting herself way more than she did before. Her behavior hasn't completely changed, she has been more open about and then rescinded some other personal topics (going to events, her country), she kinda picks and chooses how she wants to be seen, but she seems much happier now so I can't complain.
Regardless of how you appraise her truthfulness, going from two-hour streams where she sounds bored to 9-hour streams where she can't shut the fuck up is a huge development. She doesn't get pressed and then suddenly lie about something obvious to protect herself. Some of her hiding things is out of habit and out of fear, but a lot is also carefully considered and done with intent after some experimentation. She's not stupid about this, and a lot of the things she does are planned out in a weird calculated way. Her methodical streak is not something I see in other Phase members, Lumi does not think as far ahead, and she is about as unhinged as Ember when she's completely uncensored.
"Remi lies" is perhaps not strictly false, but it's very unfair. "Remi is stupid" is blatantly false and does not hold up to scrutiny in my opinion. Remi is very complicated, and the fact this stuff even needs to be analyzed speaks for itself. She's polite and professional. Among her "manipulations" are mostly things she admits openly that she's doing and workshops with chat. I can't imagine her actually seriously misleading us, nor being fooled by it to any extent. Anyway, I love my oshi. The only truth nuke is that she's great.
