When I was younger I worked with a guy from Romania that got sent to jail twice for trying to escape to the west. He succeeded the third time and worked for over a year to earn enough to have his wife and kid safely smuggled out before he legally immigrated with them to the united states. The stories he told me of life in a communist subordinate satellite state taught me everything I will ever need to know about why fuck communism in particular. Depending on what level of increasingly higher party member you were it was probably semi decent. For the other 99% it was basically free range slavery. The more we become like them the worse this country and the world in general gets.
