I feel like Gundam at its best is introspective and about big themes. GQX is very light, for lack of a better term, due to its pacing. It can't linger on too many themes, relationships, or tragedies because it's moving so fast, it's got to get to the next plot point. I think the biggest symptom of this is the way GQX handles death. In older Gundam, if you had a fight in a city, you'd see civilians up close getting blown up. It made it feel real. In GQX, all the death is implied. In many Gundam, named characters often got a dramatic death that would elicit a reaction from survivors. In GQX, named characters die and are instantly forgotten about right afterward because they have to move to the next plot point, they don't have enough time. It makes it feel like a lot of it doesn't really matter all that much.
