It was Orthodox land that was taken by Muslims, the Catholics didn't care enough to fight back for them, and ultimately lost the wars to take back the Holy Land anyway.

After the crusades there were no serious attempts to take back Anatolia.

In the meantime the original population of Anatolia was race mixed out of existence anyway.
