this was my thought too: it makes no geographic sense. f35s would have flown to iran on external fuel tanks and dumped them before entering range of iranian ad to fly back on internal fuel. flying deeper into iran then over afghanistan or the indian ocean seemed a bit nutty, especially knowing jordan is cucked and even the saudis might let them land secretly.
