Unfortunately the annoyances you mention are a feature, not a bug. They want you to be on alert and frequently checking your game because it increases the chances of you buying your way out of the problem. I understand the game means a lot to you (as it does to me) so I won't tell you to quit, but just try to pace yourself and ignore the FOMO.
