Gear and talent both matter to varying degrees depending on what your end goal is. I could be the most talented person on earth but I can't think an image into existence, I need some kind of gear. You can also be the biggest drop-dead retard and own a one-of-a-kind 100-stop DR camera that produce 10,000MP full res photos attatched to lenses that have functionally infinite resolution and perfect contrast, and still only take photos of your dog in bad lighting.
