I'm normally all into Sci-Fi, but I can't get into your plot because you are talking about making attachment to open-source waifu bot that are not really different to "commercial crap" waifu bot.
I don't see a point unless there's sentient-level AI and coming out of sentient AI deserve a much deeper plotline.

I suppose this one could tell more about the appeals. Giving fantasy superweapon in what was realistic history suggest trying to make the fantasy superweapons feel real. Not much point in fantasy weapon that asspull new power just to spice shit up.
