One guy that was selected for the US Army crash retrieval unit, Sgt. Clifford Stone, was an empath (as determined in testing) and his commanding officer wanted him there to communicate with any surviving space aliens.
The Army went and got a local preacher to give a dying alien his last rights at one crash, that I know of.
