Great article. Aligns with my anecdotal observations. It seems clear to me that those in the middle of the bell curve unconsciously conspire against a genuine meritocracy in their benefit by using their numbers to skew performance and exclusion criteria for acceptance, hiring, promotion.
As an example, the person appointed as director for water collection regulation in a functionally retarded village will not be the 150IQ individual screaming for people to stop shitting up stream in the river because the 'majority' disagree erroneously with his argument. Disease will continue to be rampant, and the high IQ individual trying to dig their own personal well will likely face enormous regulatory pressure in obtaining the permits necessary to protect themselves and generate the data that will assert the wider folly of general public policy.
I hadn't considered that there would of course be a normal distribution of 'professionals' which would exclude those on either tail for concluding other than the majority - until you posted this for me to read I was only considering the general population distribution. Life is rough.
