few years back I went around campus here (near home) and approached 8 random girls. Got all their numbers asides from one because I fumbled it and walked it off.
I think it does help to in becoming more comfortable with talking to strangers, but I don't think it helps with "finding a gf".
I also approached a girl I had a crush on in University, and chatted her a couple of times, exchanged some text, she would send me voice messages and texts, then out of no where she came out with a twink boyfriend.
