Many are called to monastic life in order to develop themselves spiritually. Christian and Buddhist monks are celibate as well. Muslims have ascetics though celibate monasticism is not allowed, the Fakir or Islamic ascetics/mystics are essentially very poor and unmarried Muslims without even a home to live in. They live in mosques and lodges called zawiyas.
