that's exactly what happened with the labor party. they made a bunch of lofty promises in their election pledges, got elected in an overwhelming majority, and is now backtracking on a lot of key promises
a real big one was a cut to winter fuel allowances (this upset everyone on all sides)

yeah there was a massive welfare reform bill being pushed through but there was open rebellion from the labor party. many of the more left members promised to vote against it (and as a result the bill was tremendously watered down)
also starmer's cabinet is crying publicly
