Hello ruffians!
Thanks to your encouragement I started with my Nihongo learning journey!
Day 731: Today I've done my anki and immersion reps. No new cards for Anki, I'm just maintaining what I've learned so far. For immersion I've watched one episode of an anime.
The second year of my learning journey is over. I don't think I'll write too much this time, like I did the last time (>>82508912).
Basically, it was mainly immersion through anime and JP streams. At one point I started adding new cards to the Anki deck and I did that for about 3 months. In that time I added 530 cards, but haven't been adding more for some time. I'm not sure what made me stop, I was probably just lazy. I really like how my cards look and what they contain, but the downside is that I need about an hour to make 10 cards. I was thinking about how I could make the process faster without sacrificing quality of the cards too much, but I'm not sure.
Going back to immersion, I've gone through the phases where I was mostly watching just anime, then JP streams, and recently anime again. I'm at a point where I can watch a JP member play games and feel like I'm not missing on much. Some stuff here and there, but because of the nature of the stream, it being a gameplay one, I can fill the gaps and be fine. It's similar with the action parts of the anime. On the other hand, when it comes down to streams more focused around talking and conversation between JP members, or part of anime where there's more talking involved, I'm still not at the satisfactory level. I feel like I'm at the cusp of it, if only I know a little bit more so I understand some key points, I would be able to fill the rest and manage. For example, when I'm watching anime and look back at the parts of the episode I don't understand and see the meaning (cause I'm still watching the first time with JP subs and the second time with EN ones) it's always only a few key words/phrases that if I understood I feel like I would get the rest too.
The two parts are probably tied together: if I start adding cards again and expand my vocabulary it will be less likely that I won't understand some key concept and miss the meaning. Okay, I'll try with this: I'll give myself I challenge. As I mentioned above, I've added 530 new cards so far (2502 in total with the original Core2.3k), so let's say that I have to add 1200 more words in the next year. That's around 3.29 words a day, so if I go with my usual tempo of 5 cards a day I still have some breathing room to miss some days and not add cards.
Well, that's it. Plan for the next year is to continue immersing and add 1200 more words. One more thing, just for the convenience in the future: I'll link my blogposts for the day 400, 500, 600 and 700 respectively here: >>84991203, >>91922960, >>98445250, >>102076090.
