So it seems like he did a Mariel, initially made something too sexy and attracted an audience he didn't want (or only did it for money), and rug pulled all that buildup away in favor of horror, but forgot to patch the holes said rug pull had. And then you attack the audience you had made and separate them.

I dunno man, attacking the audience is always a bad look from the outside and it usually doesn't end well. But the game is free, so it's not like he's losing any money either. It does make me wonder why add in things like romance and suggestive content to begin with if you wanted horror only, unless you were going for that silent hill style of sex and violence. It just seems like flushing down a whole lot of effort for a middle finger, with how hard game design is.
