I’ve been toying with an idea for a solo wargame where you play as a military cleanup crew containing an incident at Area 51.
I’m torn on creating pre-defined incidents or a system to randomly generate them. Pre-defined incidents are all inspired by anything I can think of which has a similar feel, think the resonance cascade from Half Life, aliens invading through a stargate, zombie virus outbreak, rogue AI taking over the facility and churning out robots etc. But I like the idea of randomly generated incidents to create a sense of your superiors have kept you in the dark about what you’re dealing with until the last minute.
Different incidents determine what your objectives are, failure conditions, enemy types, as well as any buffs and de-buffs. The game is split over two maps, one representing the surface and another representing the underground areas of the facility. Various perks ate granted to the player as they secure different areas of the facility.
