To sum up how I feel about this work in one phrase:
>Hooked from the film, screaming on the inside by the end of the series.

What we’re dealing with here is another Khara-style mess—an incoherent narrative riddled with missed opportunities and undeveloped threads, leaving you watching only for the animation and music by the time it’s over.

That’s the short version. The long one goes like this:

Narratively, the series is a tug-of-war between two conflicting ideas.

The clanbats felt like an excuse to stage smaller-scale fights without touching the broader implications of what an alternate UC timeline would mean. Ep 4-6 are focused on this concept—but instead of developing characters or laying the groundwork for the second half, we got fluff. Not quite filler, since these episodes are clearly intended to build toward something larger, but ultimately wasted time when it comes to developing the so-called ‘main cast.’

Then there’s the other story trying to surface: a reimagined OYW, with Char stepping in as the protagonist.

And as if that wasn’t messy enough, they throw in a multiverse plotline—executed in the most Marvel-esque, half-baked way possible.

No weight, no meaning—just a tacked-on “finality” that comes out of nowhere. Then we get to the final boss: the RX-78-2… or rather, something that looks like it, but doesn’t make any sense. That unit should’ve been obsolete by the end of the OYW, and it has no special systems—no psychommu, no standout features. And yet, it’s shown absolutely destroying the Red Gundam and others, which reflects a fundamental misunderstanding by Khara of the original work.

Finally, the finale is one of the worst ways I think they could've gone about closing up this series.

In conclusion:

For the first half, 8/10. Overall? I have a lot to criticize. But I’ll acknowledge that the animation, music, and designs are strong. So rather than let my frustration lead to total dismissal, 4/10.
