If they promote actual measures to stop real child abuse not only they would only make their lives harder so they make a non-issue a issue and rally people against it. Same thing for politicians blaming video games for violence (and turning out they have connections with organized crime) or waging war on drugs by claiming McDonalds plastic spoon promotes the use of cocaine.
