This used to be true. The pope is a bit better now than he was in the 1300s-1400s. The fact of the matter is though, there is nothing more important than the Bible. Absolutely nothing has more authority.

Hmm... Going off of that impressive analysis of Gohan's character, I think that Beast is actually the culmination of his characterization in regard to the encompassing of pacifism. The compelling argument that Gohan's core character is an exploration of conditional pacifism is espoused quite clearly in the circumstances surrounding his ascension to Beast: Piccolo's supposed death, coupled with Gohan's inability to prevent or avenge it, satisfied the condition for him to discard his pacifism, and it coalesced into a new transformation that symbolizes Gohan's willingness to transform into a "beast"--a term which generally carries a negative connotation--once his desire to embrace pacifism is outweighed by the threat of his very REASON for pacifism being endangered.
It's a smartly written character study, and the symbolism is rich and fascinating. I particularly appreciate that the hair color is white, which often symbolizes peace or purity, but the eyes are red, the colors of fire and blood, demonstrating the marriage of Gohan's inherently peaceful nature with his ability to go berserk in defense of those he cares for. It's also an excellent examination of his status as a Saiyan/human hybrid, since it juxtaposes his human values with the bestial nature of the Saiyans (again, the name "Beast" serving multiple purposes).
Beast may well be the most symbolic and philosophical transformation since the original Super Saiyan form, and perhaps even more so, given the breadth and scope of the franchise and its characters in its current form when compared to the relatively limited body of work that accompanied Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan on Namek. In a way, even that is symbolic, representing the ultimate passing of the torch from father to son.
Really compelling stuff. I fucking love Gohan.
