"We'll take you up on that." You replied. "I have a bunch of questions."
Questions such as 'Why she wasn't in the Academy today' were revealed when Aila mentioned that most classes were put on hold since last week due to some difficulties with replacing/upgrading the wands of everyone in the Academy.
Weddings were a tradition primarily followed in elven and dwarven culture. They basically followed the same formula that weddings in your old world had. Though there were exceptions, and Aila herself said that weddings could be officiated by anyone that had a connections to Holy Power, at least in elvish culture. You had a feeling Aila was referring to Gerty, yet Herta could easily act as a priest if Aila's words were to be taken at face value.
And for why she decided to come here in the first place instead of staying in her dorm...
"Well, I went to Cinnamon Inn first when I realized you went there once. But then when I heard that my cousins were in town, I knew that it wasn't a good idea to stay. They'd want to talk to me, and I knew they'd be able to figure out what happened since they're pretty intuitive. Those two usually bring trouble with how clever they are. But I also realized that they'd never expect me to hide in a place that was manned by dwarves."
"Are your cousins siblings?" You asked.
"Yes, they are. How did you know?"
"I'm pretty sure I them once. Anyway, start at the beginning."
"Alright; I was sent here in secret, after I got a vision from the Goddess Artemia to go on a sacred mission purging some growing corruption and save some ancient spells from being lost to history." At the mention of corruption, Herta gives her full attention. "I was able to purge the corruption, which was slowly festering in the wilderness, but I haven't had any luck with the spells."
"Who knows about your identity?"
"My family, the embassy, you guys, and most faculty members of the Academy. Yet the Academy does not know my mission — my family used the prestige of the place as an excuse to send me here."
"And why are there elf guards looking for you?" You press on.
"It's been my responsibility to write to the embassy ever since I arrived here. But I must've been acting strangely in their eyes, since my grades have dropped and I've been neglecting to write to my parents. And now they somehow figured out that I've fallen for someone. Although they've been really nice about things, considering they haven't been barging down doors and lockpicking places." Apparently their consideration was better than yours and your wives'.
"Why not just talk it out with them?" Bertha queried.
"I don't want them to take me away from John Doe." Aila answers plainly, a pained expression donned on her face. "Although I'll admit that it's not something they'd do unless they thought I was in mortal danger. If they heard that John Doe was a Savant, maybe they'd would see him and I as a favorable couple... but I can't be that selfish.
