I love Sonic and Tails' relationship, but sadly starting in Unleashed and up until Frontiers Tails was basically prohibited from actually fighting enemies (to be fair everyone was sidelined besides Sonic (and Shadow in that Forces DLC) and even Sonic himself was bastardized despite getting the action).

As for the comics those were always extremely ooc so there isn't much to say

I don't think they're going back to Arzest for the next classic game

Is there any other contract developer they could use? Maybe go back to Evening Star and make that hand drawn classic game

Characters created during Sonic 1's development:
>Eggman is the oldest character design in the series, originally pitched as the main character but repurposed into the antagonist
>Sonic is created shortly afterwards loosely based on that rabbit design
>Vector is created for Sonic's band, makes his debut in the Sonic Story Comic in the magazine Mega Drive Fan. He was exclusive to the SegaSonic branding/Japanese canon until Knuckles Chaotix.

Characters created in between Sonic 1 and 2:

>Amy was a created as a commission by SoJ to give Sonic a romantic partner. Her original concept was based on Madonna (cut character from Sonic 1) and was featured in the manga. She was put in CD by Oshima and her character was changed for the games
>Tails is created very early on during Sonic 2's development, as seen by the SatAM pitch bible from February 1992. He was added because Naka previously wanted Sonic 1 to have multiplayer but that ended being scrapped due to time constraints. According to Sega his debut was in the 8-bit version of Sonic 2, despite being created for the 16-bit version (both were developed at the same time)
>Charmy was created exclusively for the manga who for whatever reason was brought into the games in Knuckles Chaotix
>Mighty and Ray were created by Manabu Kusunoki for SegaSonic the Hedgehog, released around early 1993 (though the game was complete by 1992. That said their debut is in the Sonic manga. Mighty is also based on an early concept for Sonic originally being an armadillo
>Metal Sonic was created for CD, based on the Mecha Sonic boss in Sonic 2 created by Yamaguchi. There's also Silver Sonic in Sonic 2 8-bit, but that seems to have been created independently
>Sally, Uncle Chuck, Muttski, Antoine, Rotor and Bunnie were created early during Sonic 2's development, around the same time as Tails and the manga characters. They were meant to be used exclusively in western material, though made cameos in Sonic Spinball

Tails barely changed from his concept art. Yasushi just made him less furry on the torso
