If it's basically just going to be a pet then probably something low maintenence and cute like tailbone or pulmonary. Probably palmon since cats and dogs already exist. Elixamon would be neat, but fancy breeds are high maintenence and I can barely keep myself together.
If I'm actually expected to save the world and dont have plot armor I'd probably go with guilmon and hope for the best.
